Taylor Swift has apologized to Nicki Minaj.
The two powerhouse singers got into quite the heated Twitter disagreement this week after Minaj was snubbed for a VMA nomination and seemed to put down Swift in the process of expressing her discontent with the awards.

Swift admitted on Twitter that she missed the point of what Minaj was saying and instead thought, “I was being called out.”

Minaj was quick to respond.
That means so much Taylor, thank you. @taylorswift13 ❤️❤️❤️

I've always loved her. Everyone makes mistakes. She gained so much more respect from me. Let's move on. https://t.co/mx9pfIdnzT

Though Swift’s misconception of Minaj’s message wasn’t entirely unfounded.

Swift’s video for her song “Bad Blood” was nominated for Video of the Year and features a ton of her and her model and celeb friends. Beyoncé was the only other female nominated in the category.

But Minaj insists that she wasn’t calling out Swift, rather the music industry for not understanding the influence she and other artists like her have in the industry.
And she shared a clip from a Marie Claire article to further prove her point.

We’re happy that these two ladies have been able to put this beef behind them. But it did start a debate that’s worth having, since there has been a lot of discussion about bias in these award shows that has gone unheard for years now.

Hopefully the good that will come out of this Twitter feud is MTV’s reevaluation about how artists are chosen as nominees. Did Swift deserve her nomination? Absolutely! But that also doesn’t mean Minaj should be snubbed for her influence. It’s a careful line to walk, but maybe the solution is similar to how the Oscars handled their categories: open it up to more artists each year. Because there are definitely more than five music videos that had a huge impact.
