Kim Kardashian polarizes fans with her Sandra Bland tweets

Kim Kardashian is speaking out on #JusticeForSandraBland, but fans are strongly divided on her using her celebrity status to bring attention to the controversial case.

The reality star tweeted about Bland, a black woman who died in police custody after a shocking and suspicious arrest. Her death was officially ruled suicide by hanging according to the coroner’s report, but the case is stirring racial tensions because of her alleged mistreatment by police during her arrest and while in custody.

Kardashian tweeted her opinion that the whole case seems “shady” and that police are staging a “massive coverup” of their responsibility for Bland’s death.

Fan reaction was swift and divided. Some people, like those below, applauded Kardashian for using her celebrity to bring attention to a major social issue.

Others, many of whom implied or outright stated their belief that the police did nothing wrong and Bland did commit suicide, slammed Kardashian for hopping on the bandwagon merely to bring more attention to herself.

Of course, Kardashian is not the only celeb to speak out about the case — Cara Delevingne, Meek Mill, Nicki Minaj, Zendaya, Gabrielle Union and Snoop Dogg, among many others, have thrown their support behind the movement on social media — but she does certainly seem to be the most controversial.
