Lena Dunham has a polarizing effect for her hard-line, take-no-crap, feminist beliefs.
Heaven forbid a female should speak out about the injustices women deal with every day, right?
As is our society’s way, it is natural for us to see Lena Dunham attacked not for saying something but for something she wore that the Internet felt she “shouldn’t” have been wearing.
Recently, the 29-year-old Girls actress was spotted going for a run on the NYC streets wearing a pair of capri-length leggings and (gasp!) a crop top.
Her outfit immediately divided commenters into two divisive camps: those who made offensive comments and those whose comments are just confusing.
Dunham has recently been touting the positive effects of her exercise regimen. She said in an Instagram post several week ago, “To those struggling with anxiety, OCD, depression: I know it’s mad annoying when people tell you to exercise, and it took me about 16 medicated years to listen. I’m glad I did. It ain’t about the ass, it’s about the brain.” Oh, yeah… and she’s wearing a crop top in that post, too.

So, the award-winning actress donned whatever she was comfortable in and headed out the door to pound the pavement and get her sweat on. And while this is a healthy activity on every single level, commenters seem to have other ideas.
They seem to think she is wearing this particular outfit to be different…

My all-time favorite comment came from an apparent psychic, because lem755 somehow knows that Dunham works out all the time and that she weighs exactly the same as when she “started” working out. By the way, lem755 also knows, definitively, that Dunham is trying to lose weight.
Not only is it appalling that not one person had a nice thought to throw Dunham’s way, but that people have the nerve to say these things. It’s a good thing that, even among some self-doubt following a recent side-by-side supermodel appearance, Dunham pays no mind to keyboard gremlins and Internet trolls.
