Raven-Symoné was fat-shamed as a child on set of The Cosby Show (VIDEO)

No one should ever be body-shamed, least of all children, but that is what happened to Raven-Symoné.

Speaking during Tuesday’s episode of The View, the actress revealed she was fat-shamed when she was just 7 years old while on the set of The Cosby Show.

“It was definitely hard,” she recalled. “I remember not being able to have the bagel or anything at — we would call it crafty, where it’s just a table of food, ready for you to eat whatever you want. And I remember people would be like, ‘You can’t eat that. You’re getting fat!’ I’m like, ‘I’m 7! I’m hungry!'”

The former child star did not reveal who said those harsh words to her, but the effects of them were damaging and lasting.

“I’m not going to put them on blast, but that’s what I was told at that young of an age,” she confessed. “Even up until I got up to 180 pounds on That’s So Raven, you put nasty stuff in front of me, or you put images of these women that I’ll never aspire to. Of course, I’m going to get depressed.”

No one wants to be made to feel inadequate, and body-shaming someone can have lasting and devastating effects on their health and self-esteem. Conversations about weight should be left to parents and professionals. For the rest of us, it’s best to remember the old saying, “If you can’t say something nice, don’t say anything at all.”
