It’s Britney, y’all! Guesting on one of TV’s hottest shows, that is. Here are a few clues about Ms. Spears’ upcoming cameo on Jane the Virgin‘s second season.
1. There will be drama
According to Jane the Virgin‘s (brilliant) showrunner, Jennie Snyder Urman, Spears is set to star as the foil to Jane’s superficial-yet-endearing telenova dad, Rogelio De La Vega — played, of course, by Jaime Camil. And, let’s be real: Where Rogelio goes, drama follows.

“We are so thrilled that Rogelio’s ‘nemesis’ — Britney Spears — has agreed to appear on Jane the Virgin in episode 205. Personally, after hearing about their long standing feud [from Rogelio’s point of view], we are eager to hear Ms. Spears’ side of the story, which we assume is quite different,” said Urman.
2. Spears is a singer…
So surely she will grace us with a musical cameo, right? Since Urman references Spears by name, it seems safe to assume she will be playing herself. And Xiomara’s desire to become a mainstream singer has been central to the show’s storyline, so it only seems fair that Spears and Xiomara end up singing a duet or, at the very least, join in a dazzling musical number with Rogelio.
3. She tweeted at Gina Rodriguez
See u at the Marbella Hotel soon, @hereisgina@jaimecamil! 🙈 Guest starring on one of my favorite shows EVER @CWJaneTheVirgin#DreamComeTrue

When Spears confirmed the guest spot on Twitter, she looped in Jaime — naturally — and Gina Rodriguez, who plays the title character. Because she specifically tagged Rodriguez in the comment, one can only hope it means the two will be sharing scenes together and are possibly already becoming besties off-set. Because that would undoubtedly lead to some pretty fantastic on-set selfies come filming this fall!
4. Her feud with Rogelio means one of two things
Again, Rogelio is a man of many emotions and, thus, much drama. However, most of his major conflicts last season revolved around two things — women and his work. Because Urman implied Spears will essentially be playing herself, it’s possible Rogelio hates her because she beat him out for a role at some point or got in the way of his career in another fashion.

But what we’re really hoping is the drama between Spears and Rogelio has to do with affairs of the heart. I mean, c’mon. How much fun would it be to see Spears in character as one of Rogelio’s jilted ex-lovers? This could also lead to some excellent onscreen sparring between Spears and Xiomara, too.
5. She’ll be bringing her twang game
Whether Spears does, in fact, play herself as Urman suggested or she ends up portraying a fictional character, we’re placing our bets now on the odds Ms. Spears will be a Southern belle, y’all. From small-town Georgia teen Lucy in Crossroads to Will & Grace‘s “Amber Louise from Alabama,” most of Spears’ film and TV experience has stayed true to her Southern roots. And why not? Everyone loves a Southern girl.
6. The role could be recurring
Based on the feedback the cameo announcement is getting from Jane the Virgin‘s talented cast, Spears’ guest spot could very well segue into a repeat performance.
