Sister Wives premiere sneak peek: Meri & Robyn talk about the divorce (VIDEO)
Sister Wives is set to return for Season 6 on Sunday, Sept. 6 at 9/8c and we’ve got a clip that shows just how emotional things will get now that Kody and Meri’s legal divorce is done.
Though Kody and Meri are only breaking their legal ties to one another so that the family can adopt Robyn’s children from her previous marriage, it looks like it’s anything but easy on Meri in the video. Robyn comes home to find Meri having an emotional moment and she soon reveals why: Her divorce from Kody is final.

In a behind-the-scenes interview, Meri reveals that she does sometimes ponder what she has lost, but then she reminds herself that it’s not about her, but the kids. Fans were shocked last season when Meri revealed she was going to sacrifice her legal marriage to Kody so that Robyn could marry him instead, and it’s still tough to see how that decision is affecting her today.
Once Meri tells Robyn her news, things get awkward when Meri also reveals that she hasn’t told Kody yet. Robyn’s reaction is a surprised one, which is clear from the look on her face. But rather than stop there and maybe try and find Kody to tell him about the divorce, the ladies decide to continue a conversation they apparently had the previous day.

It seems that Robyn asked Meri to be a part of the ceremony when Kody and Robyn get legally wed. Understandably, Meri says she felt like her part in everything would be to just get the divorce and let Kody and Robyn take care of everything else. Who could blame her? After all, each step after that would probably only serve to remind her of what she has lost in her relationship to Kody.
But Meri’s bravery shows itself once again when she says that she’s now thinking that everything has become a team effort and she feels like she can actually be there. That sounds like a pretty big step and not one that a lot of fans might have guessed she would take.
“I’m realizing now, that while that divorce process was really hard — leading up to it and going through it — I feel like I’ve dealt with it enough that I can see a bigger picture,” Meri says in the video.
At the end of the clip, Meri decides that it’s probably time to let Kody know that they are legally divorced, which sends her into laugher at the ridiculousness of it all. It does seem crazy that she has to divorce her husband so that he can marry another woman and adopt her children. Then again, those are the laws of the country we live in and it looks like they’ve found the best way they can to abide by those laws while following their own beliefs.
“I just have to laugh about it because it just feels so stupid to me,” Meri says.

In addition to the legal divorce, the family will also be dealing with beginning the adoption of Robyn’s children. The entire process may get more complicated once Robyn announces her pregnancy to the rest of the family. One thing is for sure: It’s bound to be another wild season of the show.
