Rosie O’Donnell graphically declares a women’s war against period shamers

Donald Trump had better thank the heavens Rosie O’Donnell has already gone through menopause, otherwise she’d be after him with a nasty little gift.

Though O’Donnell didn’t name Trump specifically in her Wednesday rant on the SiriusXM show Just Jenny, there’s no confusion about the target.

“There is a way on women in this country starting with basic abortion rights, freedom to choose that we fought for in the ’60s and ’70s, that women died for bleeding in back alleys from hanger abortions,” O’Donnell said. “Women fought for equality in this country and right now, politically, it’s being taken away from us.”

O’Donnell didn’t stop there, continuing by slamming period shamers with a graphic message. “I’d like to take my period blood that I no longer have and write, ‘You’re all assholes.’ I’d like to smear it all over some people’s faces.”

For a woman who’s trying to make a stand that a woman’s monthly cycle is a natural thing that shouldn’t be seen as repulsive, we’re not sure using period blood as a weapon is really the best approach. But we sort of get where she was going.

Trump did, after all, comment on moderator Megyn Kelly and her “blood coming out of her wherever” during the debate on Aug. 6, along with a host of other degrading comments against women that were largely ignored despite the disgusting misogyny he clearly displayed.

O’Donnell also brought up Kiran Gandhi, the M.I.A. drummer who ran the London marathon without a tampon. She let her blood show to raise awareness about women in impoverished areas who don’t have access to feminine products.

“Why do you think she did that?” O’Donnell said during her interview. “When women on national platforms of the Republican party, when Fox anchors are being accused of being hormonal and shamed because they have their period, when that woman does that. Why do you think she did that? You don’t think she did that to say, ‘F*ck you, asshole!”

Someone clearly should.

We’re just not sure if an attack levied with period blood is the best approach.
