RHOC‘s Vicki Gunvalson’s split from Brooks Ayers is a blessing in disguise

If you listen quietly enough, you can probably hear the joyful dancing of Tamra Barney’s feet because Vicki Gunvalson and Brooks Ayers just broke up. What a shame! Said not a single person in Orange County.

In a joint statement to Us Weekly on Sunday, Real Housewives of Orange County‘s Vicki Gunvalson and Brooks Ayers revealed that they’ve split up. “After much prayer, thought, counseling and consideration, we have decided to end our four-year relationship,” the couple said. “We both wish nothing but a great future for each other. We have come to realize that one can indeed love someone in their heart, but that the time may come for their lives to take separate paths.”

As any RHOC fan knows, this isn’t the first time Vicki and Brooks have called it quits. The pair parted ways in 2013 after two years of dating, and fans and members of Vicki’s family all collectively let out a sigh of relief. However, V and B got back together about a year later when Brooks revealed that he had Stage III cancer.

No matter what anyone thinks of Brooks — and we all know what everyone thinks of Brooks — a cancer diagnosis is an absolutely horrible thing. But… is it a reason to get back together with someone? Vicki has a big heart and she’s nothing if not a fixer, but it may have been for the best if she simply helped care for Brooks and was a friend to him instead of getting back in a romantic relationship with him, no?

OK, I’ll admit I have a theory. And I seriously doubt I’m the only one. If I were a betting woman, I’d say that Vicki caught Brooks in some sort of lie or another. After presenting themselves as the perfect couple so far this season of RHOC and, well, Brooks having cancer, it’s hard to believe that they’d just suddenly realize that they’re not meant for each other and that they should go on separate paths — even after all of the “prayer, thought, counseling and consideration” in the world.

There absolutely has to be more to this story, as there always is in these types of situations. I’m not sure what it is that exactly happened between the two of them, but going off of Brooks’ shady history, I’d say he’s the one to blame.

One of the theories out there about Brooks right now is that he’s actually faking his cancer, which would be absolutely horrific, were it to be were true. On Monday’s episode of RHOC, the subject is broached, but Vicki seems to be sticking to her story that Brooks really is sick.

Brooks has been accused of faking cancer in the past — a story he vehemently denies — buuuut, he was caught on tape admitting that he cheated on Vicki the last time they were together. So, ultimately, the guy technically is a liar.

At the end of the day, we’re never really going to know what’s going on with Brooks, his cancer diagnosis or otherwise. But one thing is for certain: Vicki definitely doesn’t need someone like that in her life. She’s a smart, successful, pretty woman. She can do much better than Brooks.

It may sting a little bit now — and I’m sure she’s not looking forward to all of the “I told you so” looks from her RHOC cast mates — but it’s certainly better for her in the long run. Bullet dodged, if you ask me. And Tamra.

What do you think of Brooks Ayers?
