Pretty Little Liars fans have a little bit more to be upset about than the terrible season finale.
On Tuesday, PLL tweeted (and Instagrammed) a photo with the caption, “He. She. It. Charlotte. #PrettyLittleLiars.” The poster also said, “He’s alive and he’s coming for us. Isn’t he?” They are referencing the big transgender reveal that happened during the reveal of A.

Little recap: The writers copped out by revealing that A was CeCe Drake, who was born a boy, Charles DiLaurentis, which helps explain away story inconsistencies that occurred through the years. After officially transitioning, she renamed herself Charlotte and began using the alias CeCe.

While the ending had fans erupting, the transphobic tweet has fans fully raging.
The post was quickly deleted from all social media sites, but of course fans were quick to get screenshots and to retweet it.
Now, it is easy to get male and female pronouns mixed up or slip up and say “he” when you meant “she,” but to say “it” is just wrong, completely unacceptable and incredibly hateful. It would have been easier to cut ABC some slack if they had just mixed up the masculine and feminine pronouns, but they had to add “it” in there.

The Hollywood Reporter was able to get a response from ABC Family. They claim it was all a misunderstanding and that they didn’t mean to hurt anyone’s feelings.
“This tweet was in reference to lines Spencer and Hanna have said in previous episodes venting their frustration about not knowing the identity or gender of their tormentor (‘A’),” the show’s representative told the website. “It was spoken by these characters a season before they found out that ‘A’ was a transgender character. We updated the reference by including the name Charlotte because it was revealed that Charlotte is ‘A.’ Once it was tweeted we realized that it could be misinterpreted, and in no way wanted to offend anyone, so we immediately deleted the tweet.”
You think? Even with an explanation, fans are still rightfully out for blood.
It is posts like this that do terrible damage to the progress being made in the arena of trans acceptance. Someone should have known better. That’s all there is to it.
