Miley Cyrus’s outfits, or lack of any clothing at all, have been blowing up social media all day leading up to the 2015 MTV VMAs.
And now that the show is in full swing, it isn’t Miley’s outfits that are drawing hate — it’s her hair. And people are angry at the “Wrecking Ball” singer for what some are claiming is cultural appropriation, going to far as to say she has teamed up with disgraced former NAACP leader Rachel Dolezal.
Yeah, remember the white woman who pretended to be black? Her.
Tweeters are claiming that Miley’s new locks aren’t just clearly extensions but that the dreadlock look-a-likes are cultural appropriation, saying either that Cyrus looks like Dolezal or that Dolezal must have done her hair. Dolezal was able to pass as African-American in part because she wore “black” hair styles woven into her Caucasian hair.

Then there is the mildly appropriate and utterly hilarious:
While extensions are nothing unusual on the red carpet (or anywhere else, for that matter), I think it is a bit harsh to be making the Dolezal-Cyrus comparison. Cyrus’s hair appears dreadlock-ish at best and in my opinion does not appear to be appropriating a black hair style. Do I just not get it? This is a legitimate question. And if I don’t get it, this is a sincere call for someone to, please, explain.
