New Fashion Police teaser pokes fun at the show’s drama-filled past (VIDEO)

Melissa Rivers is addressing Fashion Police‘s drama head-on in a new teaser for the show’s upcoming episodes.

“Has anyone ever cleaned under these couches?” Rivers asks as she crawls on her hands and knees across the show’s set.

When someone off-camera shouts to Rivers that they’re rolling, she sits up and turns to face the camera.

“It’s been a little bit of a crazy year around here and, well, I’m still cleaning up messes,” she says to the camera. “The good news is Fashion Police is back.”

As she says it, she holds up a lint roller covered in long locks of red and purple hair, clearly a nod to all the drama that happened with hosts who have departed the show over the last year.

First, Giuliana Rancic, who recently announced she plans to continue hosting the show, insulted Zendaya’s dreadlocks, spurring many fans to say her comments, which insinuated she was a drug user because of the hairstyle, were racist. Cohost Kelly Osbourne eventually left the show over the remarks and she and Rancic have been feuding very publicly ever since.

Then, Kathy Griffin, who had been on the show for only seven episodes, announced that she, too, was leaving.

“When I chose to step into the shoes of my beloved friend Joan Rivers at Fashion Police, I was thrilled to continue her legacy as a woman being brash and eccentric on television. I am a freedom-loving female and gay rights activist who loves to find the funny in all people… but only when the context permits intelligent humor,” she wrote in a photo posted to her Facebook back in March, soon after she started her tenure on the show as Joan Rivers’ replacement. “After 7 episodes of Fashion Police, I discovered that my style does not fit with the creative direction of the show & now it’s time to move on.”

Osbourne has purple hair. Griffin has red hair. Hmm.

As Rivers throws a little shade in the teaser, Rancic opened up about moving forward on the show without Joan Rivers, one of its most iconic hosts.

“I know that Joan is just loving this moment,” Rancic said. “I knew Melissa was going to be good, she exceeded my expectations. She was hilarious, she kept the show moving, she kept it funny and light and just exactly what the show’s supposed to be. You can tell that she is her mother’s daughter.”

Fashion Police returns to E! Monday, Sept. 7 at 8 p.m.
