Angry viewers really wanted 19 Kids and Counting axed

Irate viewers’ letters to the FCC have been leaked, and they show just how much hate 19 Kids and Counting received before its cancellation.

Governmentattic.org released the letters, which reveal viewers pleading for the federal government to intervene on their behalf.

“Since TLC and Discovery communications don’t seem to care, maybe you can help,” one viewer wrote. “In the wake of the molestation charges against one of the family members, this show (and all re-runs [sic]) need to be pulled from all stations.”

Another from Cardiff by the Sea, California, echoed those statements. “Dear FCC, I don’t know where else to turn. I was lead [sic] to believe that 19 kids and counting [sic] was a wholesome family show…”

And on and on the pleas for cancellation went.

“FCC, if this is what you expect consumers to pay for, this is wrong and I am complaining and I will not pay to have this network be a part of my bill…” wrote a consumer, who is a self-described “mom,” “concerned citizen” and “angry consumer” from Wantagh, New York.

“Please force 19 Kids and Counting to be cancelled [sic]. The show is promoting deviant behaviour [sic] under the guise of Christianity. Thank you,” another viewer from New York, New York, said.

Not surprisingly, 19 Kids and Counting isn’t the only show viewers object to. Here Comes Honey Boo Boo also got its fair share of hate.

“I believe 19 Kids and Counting and Here Comes Honey Boo Boo are obscene in that they are abhorrent to morality and repulsive to ethical principles,” one viewer from Kapolei, Hawaii, wrote. “The channel is basically funding parents having an irresponsible amount of kids despite overpopulation and its impending effect.”

Another from Dallas, Texas, added, “This show promoted religious hatred and is deeply offensive. During a scene in which the family was having a contest drinking from baby bottles, one of the family members declares: ‘she got Jewed.'”

According to The Washington Post, the FCC explained that each letter was given a response thanking viewers for their concern, and then the complaints were closed. The agency explained that indecency law violations can’t just be based on a general opinion.

Meanwhile, the Duggars seem to be trying to put the pieces of their lives back together. Josh Duggar has entered a long-term treatment facility after he confessed that he had cheated on his wife and was addicted to pornography.

And while the FCC may not have been able to take action, TLC certainly did by pulling the 19 Kids and Counting programming off the air.

Will Here Comes Honey Boo Boo be next?
