It will be the first child for Charlotte, 34, and Tom, 37, who met on the set of Wuthering Heights in 2009, got engaged the following year and married in July 2014.
The star of Mad Max: Fury Road is known for keeping his private life private but he has spoken in the past about his struggles with addiction during his 20s. The Guardian reported earlier this year that, when asked about his addiction to alcohol and crack, he said: “I would have sold my mother for a rock of crack.”
“I was a shameful suburban statistic,” he said. “I was told very clearly, ‘You go down that road, Tom, you won’t come back. That’s it. All you need to know.’ That message stayed with me clearly for the rest of my days. I am f***king lucky to be here.”

The actor, who already has a 7-year-old son, Louis Thomas Hardy, with ex-girlfriend Rachael Speed, credits fatherhood with really turning his life around. He told Detailsmagazine: “There’s such a blissful sense of otherness that I can’t remember what it was like to not have children. I used to think a lot about myself. I still do, I guess. I mean, I have the capacity to indulge in myself.
“My primary relationship was with myself, and that was interrupted irrevocably when I found out I was going to be a father,” he went on. “It cut out so much shit from my head. There was the idea that in order to look after someone else, you must first truly look after yourself. I need to be fit and good to go and get shit done. I was healthy and already had a lot of shit behind me — rehab and all that — but I didn’t have an anchor. A child is an anchor.”
Congratulations, Tom and Charlotte, on the news of your new little anchor.
Legend, the biopic of the Kray brothers in which Tom Hardy plays both Ronnie and Reggie, hits U.K. cinemas on Sept. 9.
