“Romeo, Romeo! Wherefore art thou, Romeo?”
Those famous words from Shakespeare are known for their romanticized elements — and they certainly wouldn’t seem the same coming from a guy, right? But it was the concept of gender-swapping that was the basis of Face Off‘s second Focus challenge: taking male models and transforming them into Shakespeare’s leading ladies.
Fans were gushing love for the challenge premise on social media.
The task proved tougher than the contestants initially thought it would be, but being a Focus challenge, they didn’t have much time to worry about it.

Best of the best
These makeups were labeled as the “top looks” of the challenge.
Meg
The judges were in absolute adoration of Meg’s creation. I must say, this was definitely my favorite of the bunch. “There’s a great read from a distance on this character,” judge Neville Page said. “Very sexy. Very exotic. I’m impressed.”
“She’s absolutely stunning,” judge Ve Neill said. “Your colors are gorgeous. The fact that you used that maroon along the cheekbone to look like blush — you hit every single note.”
Obviously, this was the clearcut challenge winner. After being ranked in the “bottom looks” three times so far this season, this was Meg’s first standout performance. Well deserved, too.
Stevie
“Your blending edges are all lovely,” Neill said. “In general, you’ve done a really good job creating a female character for us.”
“This is certainly one of the most successful makeups on the stage tonight in terms of making your male character look female,” judge Glenn Hetrick said. “You used all the right forms. It’s a great job.”

At risk for elimination
The following makeups were labeled as the “bottom looks” of the challenge.
Evan
Hetrick was critical of the way the veins were “senselessly” scattered across the face. But Neill was more brutal when she said, “The whole character is kind of a mish-mosh for me. She looks like a drag queen. I think you probably would have been better off trying to just do a decent beauty makeup on her. It definitely looks like you got lost somewhere along the way.”
Ricky
“OMG. WTF,” Neill exclaimed. “I can see the character there; I just think between the paint and your inability to really make all this work, it doesn’t work for me this week.”
“I really don’t feel ya on this one,” Hetrick said. “In this challenge, first and foremost, you had to get the female form, and that’s where it falls down for you.” For those reasons, the judges chose to eliminate Ricky.
I actually thought Ricky had a real shot at potentially winning the entire competition. His talents were bright in several previous challenges (except his silly gatekeeper makeup) that he proved to be a true contender. Yes, his gender-swap makeup was definitely atrocious, but I believe his previous work would have been enough to keep him alive at least one challenge longer. It’s a big bummer Ricky is gone.
