Sister Wives highlights Robyn’s ulterior motives and manipulation

Meri’s announcement that she’d be divorcing Kody was a colossal end to Season 5 of Sister Wives. Now, in Season 6, viewers learn what that means for the future of the Browns.

On the season premiere, Meri, Kody and Robyn negotiate the situation they’re in now: In order for Kody to adopt Robyn’s children, Meri will divorce Kody. Meri and Robyn are both emotional from the start of the show, although both seem to be clear on the fact that what they’re doing is “pushing paper around” and nothing more. Twitter fans, who for the most part have been less than crazy about Robyn in the past (to put it mildly), are skeptical about Robyn’s motivations, suspecting her of nefarious plotting.

All three Browns assert that no matter what happens, they will continue to be married to one another according to their religious beliefs. Confusion takes hold, however, when a decision needs to be made about Robyn and Kody signing a marriage license. Meri isn’t sure she wants to be there, even though Robyn says she should be, because they’re doing this as a team. Kody insists that the date won’t mean anything. In the end, Robyn and Kody go to the courthouse alone, which doesn’t help dispel the prevailing idea that Robyn is the favorite wife.

It’s not clear whether the new legal marriage between Robyn and Kody is even necessary, since we don’t know that Robyn’s ex-husband has given up parental rights to his children. It’s hard to predict what the consequences of the divorce and marriage will be, but it seems like fans will be watching the Meri/Kody/Robyn dynamic closely and with swords drawn.
