Kate Middleton makes her first post-baby solo appearance for a worthy cause

The Duchess of Cambridge has made her first solo appearance since the birth of her second child, daughter Princess Charlotte of Cambridge, and the cause is something that is very close to her heart.

It’s been four months since she gave birth and it looks as though Kate Middleton is eager to get back to work. Earlier today she visited the London charity Anna Freud Centre, which treats children and youths with mental health problems, The Mirror reports.

The charity was established more than 60 years ago and is named after a pioneer in child psychoanalysis and youngest daughter of famous psychoanalyst Sigmund Freud, Anna Freud, whose work has greatly influenced thinking on child development.

According to The Mirror, Kensington Palace released a statement about the centre and why Middleton’s visit is so important.

“The Anna Freud Centre is focussed on reducing the burden of mental health difficulties carried by children and young people by offering a holistic approach to tackling the issue,” the statement reads. “The charity is creating a new Community Campus, where experts in mental health, neuroscience and education will work together with children and families on developing new treatments and approaches. During the visit, The Duchess will learn about the AFC’s development plan for the Campus, including its research and training programmes, which helps train over 3,000 professionals in this field each year (sic).”

This is not the first time that Middleton has chosen to raise awareness for mental health in children. She previously recorded a video during Children’s Mental Health Week for Place2Be (a charity she has publicly supported as a royal patron since 2013).

We think it’s fantastic that Middleton is raising awareness for child mental health, helping to dispel any myths about mental illness and reminding both parents and children that speaking about mental health is not a sign of weakness.

Since the birth of Princess Charlotte Middleton has kept a pretty low profile, although she has attended two events along with her husband, Prince William. These were the America’s Cup World Series in Portsmouth in July and the Balmoral celebration of Queen Elizabeth II becoming the longest reigning monarch.
