Brooks Ayers talks cancer & the night of drinking that resulted in backlash

When the reports that The Real Housewives of Orange County‘s Brooks Ayers was out drinking while battling cancer hit the press, he was faced with an unwelcome wave of criticism.

Now, speaking on the incident that made headlines, Vicki Gunvalson’s ex has revealed that the reports were sensationalized.

“The story took legs when it said that I was out partying in the midst of dealing with chemo, which is a no-no. You don’t do that,” he told Us Weekly. “So I haven’t been doing that. I do have a drink on occasion, [but] it’s nothing like it used to be, three or four times a week socially; it’s a couple of times a month, very, very scaled back.”

And although he admits he was out, it was nowhere near as wild as the press made it out to be.

“I wasn’t over the top drunk, I wasn’t with any woman,” he explained. “I was with three of my buddies. And I had two cocktails and that was it.”

Ayers was also accused of faking cancer because people wondered why his chemotherapy for non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma was not making him terribly ill. But, according to Ayers, the last time he had treatments was in January of this year, and when he did have it, it was only once every six weeks.

“It’s implied — people say chemotherapy, they think the worst, they think three or four days a week,” he said. “And it is awful. I’m not demeaning that at all. But the route I went was a more potent chemotherapy treatment, one time, every six weeks. I did not have to get a port for that, one day of receiving via IV chemo was fine.”

Brooks Ayers’ recent comments reveal that he has been taking care of his health, but tell us what you think. Was the criticism over his night out deserved? Or should everyone just leave him alone?
