Paris train hero Alek Skarlatos not only saved the lives of numerous people in Paris, but also would have tried to save the lives of the students killed at Oregon’s Umpqua Community College had he been there.
Skarlatos is currently assigned to an infantry until in Roseburg, Oregon, and was enrolled in classes at the college on Tuesdays and Thursdays. However, since becoming an American hero and getting a prime spot on Dancing with the Stars, Skarlatos had to hold off on school and focus on learning to dance.
That might be a decision part of him regrets.
Since Skarlatos would have been in the school, he knows there is a chance that he could have taken down the gunman and saved even more lives. He doesn’t know if he would have been able to, but he told ABC News, “I would have tried anyways.”

Skarlatos also stated, “It’s just absolutely insane to be in a situation like this, especially in my town, Roseburg. This is a really small community and just something of this magnitude happening here is just very rare and just unheard of.”

Skarlatos was in the middle of rehearsing with his DWTS partner, Lindsay Arnold, in LA when his friend texted him the news of what happened. He admits that he broke down and then went into the bathroom so that the cameras wouldn’t see him. He then quickly decided to leave LA and travel back home to be with his friends and family. That makes sense, after all. A hero knows what is truly important, and last night it was his community.

We do expect to see Skarlatos on Monday night and we expect to see the footage that the cameras did get when Skarlatos was informed of the tragic shooting in Oregon.
