Alfonso Ribeiro returns to DWTS in an all-new role

Alfonso Ribeiro is following in Tom Bergeron’s footsteps in more ways than one.

Not only did Ribeiro recently take over for Bergeron as the new host of America’s Funniest Home Videos, but he’s now covering for Bergeron as the Dancing with the Stars host on the show.

Bergeron, sadly, had to take a break from his hosting duties to be with his father, who is sick.

Ribeiro shared the news of his hosting gig on his Instagram, along with the photo of Bergeron with his dad.

“I will be filling in for @tombergeron tomorrow night on @dancingabc,” Ribeiro wrote. “I will be there with a heavy heart for my friend Tom and the Bergeron family.”

Bergeron also thanked fans and friends for their support.

It’s unclear how much time Bergeron will be taking with his family, so Ribeiro’s hosting duties could be extended past this week, depending on how much time Bergeron needs away.

Ribeiro is one of DWTS‘ iconic mirror ball trophy winners. He took home the winning prize during Season 19 and has been a recognizable face of the show ever since. Just last week, he appeared as the first guest judge on Season 21.

After the show, Ribeiro told E! News, “I’m having a blast doing it.” He said of his guest judge duties, “The show feels fresh, it feels new again.”

Catch Ribeiro fulfilling his guest-host duties tonight at 9/8c on ABC.

Do you think Ribeiro is the perfect guest-judge pick to fill in for Bergeron?
