Sister Wives star Meri Brown’s tough year just got even tougher: She was just forced to admit she got catfished during an online extramarital affair.
Meri’s life was thrown into complete turmoil when her husband, polygamist Kody Brown, asked her for a divorce so he could legally marry sister wife No. 4, Robyn. Now Meri claims her emotions got the best of her and she was caught up in an online-only affair with a man who actually turned out to be a woman using a false identity.
“During an emotional and vulnerable time earlier this year, I began speaking with someone online who turned out to be not who they said they were,” Meri told People.
“I never met this person and I regret being drawn into this situation, but I hope because of it I can help others who find themselves in similar circumstances.”

“Throughout this ordeal, my family has supported and stood by me,” she said. “I am grateful to them for their love and strength through this difficult time.”
After the divorce was finalized — leaving Meri as Kody’s “spiritual” wife, just not his legal one — Kody legally wed Robyn so he could adopt her three children from a previous marriage and add them to his health insurance.
Although she agreed to the move, it left Meri completely shaken and left her vulnerable to that online manipulation.
“I’ve just been trying so hard to be there and do this whole team thing and not be caught up in the emotions of it, and I shocked myself by having so much emotion,” she revealed during the Sister Wives premiere last month.
