It’s no secret 50 Cent doesn’t keep his opinions to himself, however controversial they may be.

Anyone who follows the rapper on social media knows he has no filter whatsoever. So those people probably aren’t surprised by the comments that brought 50 Cent under heat this week: his thoughts about why the second episode of the current season of Empire saw about a 2.3 million — 18 percent — decline in viewership. In a now-deleted post on Instagram, 50 Cent blamed the slump on the show’s “gay stuff.”
The thought doesn’t seem to have originated with 50, whose post was a screen grab of a post on the Industry on Blast Instagram page, captioned, “There are 3 million less (sic) viewers who tuned into last night’s Empire episode!!!! did you watch it? We could not take the extra gay stuff or celebrity stuff last night!!!!”

Empire‘s lead character, Jamal Lyon, played by Jussie Smollett, is an openly gay musician. The show’s second season premiere also featured a lesbian investor, played by Marisa Tomei.
According to the Huffington Post, the show’s second episode beat every other scripted show on TV last week despite its ratings drop. And even after the drop, Empire viewership is four times that of the top-rated episode of Power, a show 50 Cent produces. Both shows feature predominantly black casts and there’s a definite rivalry between them, the site reports.
After facing commenter backlash, 50 removed the offensive Instagram post, replacing it with one captioned, “It must be a slow news week, they’re gonna say 50 said Empire lost 3 million views because of to much gay shit. He only said cookie call me, but the f***ing kid is f***ing up the show. Now every one is waiting for POWER, I told him to lay low (sic).”

The post makes it sound like his excuse is that he didn’t write the original comments, but only reposted them.
