We know Teresa Giudice is expected to reunite with her family in time to celebrate Christmas with them, but things are clearly emotional in the meantime for the Real Housewives of New Jersey star and her daughters.

Giudice is close to finishing her 15-month sentence in federal prison for tax fraud, and a heartbreaking new sneak peek video from The Real Housewives of New Jersey: Teresa Checks In, a three-part series that will show viewers a behind-the-scenes look at life in the Giudice household without the embattled matriarch, shows just how much the family is struggling to stay upbeat.

In the clip, Giudice calls her eldest daughter, Gia, from the Connecticut prison where she’s been housed since January. Giudice sounds forcibly upbeat as she asks her daughter how she’s doing.

“Is your makeup on?” she asks 14-year-old Gia, who chokes up and can’t answer.

“My mom doesn’t want me or anyone to get emotional, so I try my best just to keep it all together,” Gia says in an interview later in the clip.

Excuse us. Just a little dust in our eyes.

According to People magazine, Giudice will be released early, which is why she’ll likely be home in time for Christmas with her children and husband, Joe.

Several months back we were able to secure an early release date of Dec. 23,” her lawyer, James L. Leonard Jr., reportedly told the publication. “That means Teresa will leave the prison on Dec. 23 and go home and sleep in her own bed. Two days later she will wake up and celebrate Christmas with Joe and her girls.”

As soon as Giudice completes her prison sentence, however, Joe will head behind bars for a 15-month sentence of his own. The couple both pleaded guilty in 2014 to bankruptcy fraud and conspiracy to commit mail and wire fraud.
