The Big Bang Theory focuses on the future of Raj’s love life in Season 9

At the end of Season 8 of The Big Bang Theory, Raj’s relationship with Emily wasn’t going exactly as planned. Emily’s dark side and somewhat obsession with death wasn’t something Raj was too fond of, but in fear of being alone, he blurted out his love for his girlfriend, rather than dump Emily like he originally planned. Now, it looks like we’re going to be seeing even more of Emily.

TVLine reports that Laura Spencer is now a series regular on TBBT, which means Emily will be popping up more often. Per a Big Bang source, Spencer is considered a “fractional” series regular throughout Season 9, which means she will not be in every episode, but the promotion “guarantees the actress’ availability on an as-needed basis.”

Overall, it appears that Emily might be an even more prominent figure in Raj’s life. With that said, what does this mean for the future of Raj’s love life? Well, it could go two ways.

First, Raj and Emily could become even more serious. There’s always a chance Raj will see Emily in a new light and want to take things to the next level, which may or may not include marriage. Seeing how fearful Raj was of breaking up with Emily, I highly doubt a proposal or wedding is in the near future for these two, but Raj might want to move in with Emily, which is a big step many couples take. Furthermore, it’s still unclear whether Raj truly loves Emily, like he previously told her, so there’s always the possibility of Raj actually falling in love with his girlfriend — if he hasn’t already.

On the other hand, Raj’s love life could take a turn for the worse. Maybe, just maybe, after much thought, consideration and further fake “I love you’s,” Raj will officially break up with Emily. Or, she could dump him. Either way, Raj and Emily might not last. Whatever the case, if Raj doesn’t love Emily and is faking the relationship, so he’s not all alone, well, he needs to move on and stat. As difficult as it’s been for Raj to find a girlfriend, he needs to realize it’s OK to be alone until that right person comes along.

Whatever the case, fans will surely see more of Emily, and here’s hoping Raj can find some happiness.

The Big Bang Theory airs Mondays at 8/7c on CBS.
