And now Fox Searchlight Pictures and BBC Films have released the first movie still, showing Jennifer Saunders and Joanna Lumley as Edina and Patsy sipping champers on a boat in the South of France. Of course.
The movie adaption of the hugely popular BBC television series reunites Saunders and Lumley with the rest of the original cast, including Julia Sawalha as Saffy, Jane Horrocks as Bubble, June Whitfield as Mother and Kathy Burke as Magda.
“All the main characters and virtually everyone that’s ever been in the series will be in the film,” Saunders said earlier this year. Rumoured guest appearances include Kate Moss, Emma Bunton, Victoria Beckham, Kelly Hoppen and One Direction’s Harry Styles (who’s said to be playing Patsy’s love interest).

According to Variety, “Edina and Patsy are still living the high life: shopping, drinking and clubbing their way around London’s trendiest hotspots. Blamed for a major incident at an uber-fashionable launch party, they become entangled in a media storm, and are relentlessly pursued by the paparazzi. Fleeing penniless to the glamorous playground of the super-rich, the French Riviera, they hatch a plan to make their escape permanent, and live a life of luxury forever.”
Stealing the show from Posh and Styles will be 96 drag queens. According to The Spectator, talent scouts have been searching for “draggy camp fantastic looking queers,” eight of whom will perform individually. Seventy will be audience members and the other 18 will be celebrity drag lookalikes, including Cher, Madonna and Dolly Parton.
The only way to respond to that is this.
Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie will be released in 2016.
