Brooks Ayers admits his cancer storyline became a focal point on The Real Housewives of Orange County. But it wasn’t his fault.
Ayers, who set the record straight in an interview with E! News, said his cancer was, sadly, real, after he was plagued by fake cancer claims during last season of the show.

“Unfortunately, I wish it wasn’t true,” Ayers said in the interview. “It would be a lot easier if I didn’t have cancer, just to be honest with you. The daily grind, the routines of reminding yourself that I’m sick and I need to do certain things and not do certain things.”
But just because that part wasn’t fake doesn’t mean other aspects weren’t played up for the The Real Housewives of Orange County cameras.
Ayers said he allowed the cancer drama to become a focal point of the show because producers threatened to minimize Vicki Gunvalson‘s role in the reality TV drama without it.

“They fight below the belt,” Ayers said of the way the Real Housewives ladies attacked him with those fake cancer claims. “What am I supposed to do? Fight? Cuss with women? I don’t do that.”
As for their breakup, Ayers insists that it was best for he and Gunvalson. He was also sure to say that they were both happily moving on.
“I am [dating]. Vicki is as well. It could be very serious,” he said. “I’m just living life with a lot less drama from that perspective.”

And despite the drama and the clear ups and downs, Ayers gave a definitive no when asked if anything on the show was manufactured.
