Travis Barker was in so much pain after his horrific plane crash that he tried to convince his friends to put him out of his misery.
Barker, the drummer for Blink-182, was left with burns over 65 percent of his body in the accident that left only himself and DJ AM alive and killed four people, including the two pilots as well as Barker’s security guard and assistant.
In an interview with ABC News, Barker describes the terrifying accident and describes a truly awful deal he tried to make with his friends in a moment of sheer desperation.

“I mean, [medical officials] had to take my phone out of my room because I was making these phone calls,” Barker said, explaining that he begged pals to take his life and put him out of his misery. “I would call friends of mine and go, ‘You know, I’ll deposit a million dollars into whoever’s bank account. Like, I’m done.'”
Barker, who spent four months in burn centers and suffered through 27 surgeries, almost didn’t make it out of the plane at all.
“The plane’s on fire and my hands are on fire so I unbuckle my seat belt and I jump right into the jet, which holds all the fuel. I basically ignite my whole body on fire.
“I’m so soaked in jet fuel, there’s nothing I can do to put the fire out. I’m completely nude at this point… I’m running, grabbing my testicles, my genitals, because, I don’t know why, and then we realize, you know, we’re out of the plane and… the plane explodes.”
While Barker and DJ AM both lived through the crash, a year later Barker would find himself the sole survivor. His close friend, real name Adam Goldstein, died of a drug overdose after years of sobriety, which many friends believe was caused by a new dependence on pain medication stemming from his crash injuries.
Barker has not been in a plane since that fateful night. Read more about the crash, its aftermath and his life today in Barker’s new memoir Can I Say: Living Large, Cheating Death, and Drums, Drums, Drums.
