Are you listening, The CW? The fans made themselves pretty clear during tonight’s episode of Arrow: They want original Team Arrow to stay exactly as it is.

In the latest episode of Arrow, Oliver (Stephen Amell), Diggle (David Ramsey) and Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards) were back together as a team all on their own and viewers couldn’t stop talking about it on Twitter. Once Felicity mentioned how good it felt to have the original team back — “the OGs, the original gangstas” — it fired up the fandom and made nearly everyone express how much they loved it, too.
What about the ladies?
As a woman writing for a women’s website, I have to give props to the show for bringing in so many wonderfully strong female characters. If you’re going to build out Team Arrow, it’s nice to see it being done with some superheroes who were women. But there is just something about the dynamics of the original three that can’t be beaten.
I’m not saying that we should dump Laurel (Katie Cassidy), Thea (Willa Holland) and the newly restored Sara (Caity Lotz). In fact, they would make one heck of a team on their own. Their stories are compelling and they kick all kinds of ass, so why not let them do it outside of original Team Arrow? I wouldn’t mind watching the original team part of the time and the others the rest of the time. Heck, if things go really well, it might be fun to see them on a show of their own. An all-female superhero team — how amazing would that be?

The original three
Once Laurel and Thea went off to try and convince Malcolm to bring Sara back, Oliver, Diggle and Felicity were left to do things as they always have. Oliver and Dig were out there on the street, with Felicity playing her vital role back in the cave. Without anyone else around to distract them, Oliver and Dig had no choice but to confront each other and get their crap out into the open. Of course, Felicity had to give them both a swift kick in the ass before they would do it, but that’s all part of the charm of their chemistry. What is an episode of Arrow without Oliver or Diggle taking a bullet (or, in this case, metahuman tattoo playing cards) for the other or Felicity telling them off for being reckless?

Dig finally let Oliver in on his secret, and though they were too late for Dig to get the answers he wanted, it was fantastic to see them working together again. When it was over and Felicity made her toast to original Team Arrow, I never wanted it to end. I thought about what will happen once Sara is no longer a snarling beast and she, along with Thea and Laurel, come back to work with the team again. The vibe won’t be the same — and I know I’m not the only one who feels it.
