Season 7 of The Vampire Diaries continues to introduce new faces. For example, during Thursday’s episode, “Age of Innocence,” a new character is popping up by the name of Oscar. Fans have heard Lily and her family of heretics mention that name before, but who he is and what he’s up to, besides being on an errand for Mama Salvatore, remains a mystery.

First, Oscar is played by Tim Kang (The Mentalist), who is described as “a laid-back stoner who’s been living the high life off the grid for months.” He’s been living a “Zen lifestyle,” but it is soon interrupted when Bonnie, Damon and Alaric go in search of him. He even might have information about that ominous Phoenix Stone. If that’s not enough, Oscar also has a “surprising connection to the Salvatores.” What does that mean?
While chatting with TVLine about his upcoming appearance, Kang said, “We will come to realize he has a surprising connection to the Salvatores, and I think it’ll be a fun reveal.” Kat Graham also spoke about Oscar to TV Guide and revealed, “And what Oscar says is even more surprising, because there’s a whole twist with this Oscar character as well that people are going to be a little thrown by.”
Well, that didn’t give much away, which means it is time to theorize about who Oscar is and exactly how he’s connected to the Salvatore family.
1. He is Lily’s child
It sounds like it’s going to be a big twist, so maybe he is Lily’s child, which means he would be Damon and Stefan’s half-brother. That’d be pretty crazy. Seeing as he’s super close with Lily, maybe she had a relationship with someone else besides Damon and Stefan’s father and then got pregnant with Oscar, before turning into a vampire. You never know when it comes to TVD.
2. He’s romantically involved with Lily
There’s a good chance his relationship with Lily goes further than just being part of her family of heretics. So, it’s quite possible Oscar is Lily’s boyfriend or husband or a love interest.

3. He’s linked to Katherine
Anyone else miss Katherine? If Oscar is connected to Katherine somehow, this would be a great way to integrate Nina Dobrev’s other character back into the show. I’m not really sure how he’d be connected to Katherine, but it could happen.
4. He knows Damon and Stefan
Fans are always learning new things about Damon and Stefan’s past, so maybe Oscar knows the brothers, and not just because of Lily. There could easily be some history between the three that has yet to be unveiled. Based on the promo, it doesn’t seem like Damon recognizes Oscar, so maybe it’s Stefan who is linked to him.
Whatever the case, Oscar’s definitely going to bring even more mystery to TVD.
