We all had a fantastic time in New York, especially my kids. I wasn’t exactly sure how my kids were going to do in New York; they had never been to a big city like that.

There are so many people, and you can’t just let your kids walk ahead of you like you can here in Annapolis, and all the walking that you have to do. Let me tell you, my kids were Rock Stars. Yes, of course, we did have our meltdowns, but that is to be expected just in everyday life; it doesn’t matter where we are!
When we did Times Square, I have to say that was interesting, just to see the look on my kids’ faces with all the people that were there and the different types of people. When we saw the naked cowgirl, I didn’t think Jack had noticed, but boy, was I wrong. That night, when we had gotten back to the hotel, and we talked about Times Square, he said, “Why didn’t that lady have a shirt on”? Kids don’t miss anything — that is one thing that I learned. Central Park is just beautiful. It is so amazing that they have this beautiful park in the middle of this city that is all hustle and bustle. When you are there, you feel like you are in a different place.

One scene that was not shown was when we met a friend of ours who is also a little person for pizza one night. His name is Tom, and he lives in Brooklyn but is from the Annapolis area. I met Tom when I was in high school; he is quite a bit younger than I am. Ha! He is one of the nicest guys that you could ever meet.
We had such a nice time talking with Tom, and him telling us what it is like to live in the city with being a little person, and how much he enjoys it. He did say that he wouldn’t want to raise a family in New York City, which I have to say, I feel the same way. Good for Tom, though, for living in the city while he is footloose and fancy-free.

There was another scene that we shot that you, unfortunately, didn’t see either; that was a candy store. Our hotel was right across the street from Economy Candy. Let me tell you, this candy store had every type of candy imaginable — ones that I had never heard of, and candy that I haven’t seen in ages. My kids had a blast! They got Pez dispensers, they made their own M&Ms bag, they picked out lollipops. After we were finished, we had gotten about $80 worth of candy. Holy cow, let’s just say when we got home, we shared with lots of friends. I didn’t want that dentist bill!
We all loved New York so, so much. Next week will be the end of the Hamills on TV, not for too long, though, hopefully. We have a special episode where we answer viewers’ questions and see some scenes that didn’t make the show. It’s going to be a fun way to say goodbye for now!
