Katie Holmes kept her response to Leah Remini‘s criticisms of Tom Cruise and Scientology short and sweet, but what she said only deepens the mystery.
It was at Holmes’ wedding to Tom Cruise that Remini said she first drew the ire of Scientology bigwigs by questioning why Shelly Miscavige, the wife of church leader David Miscavige, had not been seen in so long. But before that, Remini said she was strongly reprimanded for making a joke about the couple’s blatant show of PDA during dance lessons.
In a preview of Remini’s 20/20 special airing tonight, she explained that she and her husband Angelo Pagan, who used to be in a salsa band, were called by a Scientology official one night who said, “Tom wants you to come over and teach him salsa dancing.”

When Remini and Pagan arrived, they found Cruise and his then-new girlfriend Holmes getting very frisky while flanked by two Scientology officials.
“He was like, forcibly kissing Kate,” Remini said. “I said, ‘Hey, get a frickin’ room,’ and I was written up for that.”
Remini explained that being critical of Cruise was tantamount to “being critical of Scientology itself,” adding, “You are a person who is ‘anti’ the aims and goals of Scientology. You are ‘evil.'”

ABC sent Holmes a list of questions, hoping to get her to participate in Remini’s exposé of the church since she herself left when she split from Cruise. But rather than answer any of their questions, she sent a seemingly simple written statement.
“I regret having upset Leah in the past and I wish her only the best in the future,” Holmes said.
Well, what the heck does that mean?
We don’t know what questions ABC asked her or what specific incident or incidents Holmes is referring to when she says she regrets upsetting Remini, but aren’t you dying to know?
