Angelina Jolie may have just proved she’s one of the classiest women on the planet with her interview in The New York Times.

Jolie finally addressed those Sony hack emails that were targeted at her. Former Sony co-chairman Amy Pascal and Hollywood producer Scott Rudin called her a “minimally talented spoiled brat” and poked fun at her movie efforts in the correspondences that were leaked back in December 2014.
But Jolie doesn’t have time to focus on that negativity.
In fact, she told The NY Times that she hadn’t even read the emails.
“There are certain things that bother me and certain things that don’t,” Jolie explained. “Personal attacks on me? I think I’m just so used to it. Honestly, my first instinct was that I was worried about Amy. I had someone call her and ask if she was OK. Not because I’m a saint, but because I think we have to look at the bigger picture. She’s got kids. I knew it was going to unravel for her.”

And while Jolie tries not to focus on the negativity within the industry, she said it becomes hard when looking at the lack of female directors in Hollywood.
As the Times noted, the divide is so large that a federal investigation was recently started to look into gender discrimination within entertainment.
“I want to support other women because of the opportunities I’ve had — and I’ve had a lot of opportunities. What I try as a female director is to do the best job I can and in the meantime, bring attention to as many other female directors and writers as I can. Right now I am producing The Breadwinner, an animated film about Afghanistan. Nora Twomey is the director.”
But there is still a lot of ground for women to cover. In fact, Jolie revealed in the interview that she was Brad Pitt‘s first experience working with a female director on their new film By the Sea, which Jolie wrote, directed and starred in.

“I’m not just a woman, but a writer-director,” Jolie explained when the Times asked her what Pitt’s first experience with a woman director was like. “We’re also husband and wife. I think it was doubly hard. We know certain things about each other. At first it was a little uncomfortable. You want to be careful what button you press and what you don’t. At the same time, he later said he felt like he could be the most open in his acting, because he trusted I was genuinely there to help him give the best performance.”
By the Sea hits theaters Nov. 13.
