Brooks Ayers is justifying his decision to falsify his cancer medical documents.

In a new statement to E! News, Ayers explained that he decided to fake his medical records, which supposedly proved he had stage 3 non-Hodgkin lymphoma, because he wanted to keep the real details of his illness private.

“Words cannot express the deep regret that I have in fabricating documents to ‘prove’ to the world that I, in fact, have cancer,” Ayers wrote. “What I did was wrong and inexcusable. I acted alone, without Vicki’s knowledge, to produce documents for a reality TV show in hopes of putting doubts about my cancer to rest. I never intended to disclose my actual medical records or details about my private and personal medical history, thus the rationalization of presenting documents that weren’t true simply for a ‘storyline’ for the show.”

Ayers’ statement comes on the heels of an investigation from People, in which a hospital spokesperson confirmed to the outlet that Ayers had never been treated by the City of Hope hospital like he previously claimed.

Despite the discovery of Ayers’ continued fraudulent claims regarding his illness, he continues to insist that he does, in fact, have cancer. But he also told E! News that he will no longer comment on it from here on out.

“From this day forward, my own personal journey with this disease will remain private as I initially intended over a year ago. My sincerest apologies to my family, friends, loved ones, and those who are battling this horrid disease for any additional pain and/or stress that I have caused. As [University of Louisville basketball coach] Rick Pitino once said, ‘Mistakes can be good. They are fertilizer. Everything I’ve learned about coaching [life], I’ve learned from making mistakes.’ I made a mistake yet I have learned a huge lesson as well.”

As for Ayers’ fellow The Real Housewives of Orange County stars, they aren’t surprised.

Tamra Judge told E!, “I can’t say I am shocked.”

While Meghan Edmonds added, “It’s a very sad and disgusting situation. I never believed I would be surrounded by such lies but hopefully now we can focus on the truth.”

Vicki Gunvalson also broke her silence on her ex on Twitter.

Do you think Ayers has cancer despite all the fabricated evidence, or was the whole thing a lie?
