OK, y’all, I need your help on this one.
In a sneak-peek from the upcoming episode of Keeping Up with the Kardashians, we get to see Kim giving Khloé a pep talk about proving the body-haters wrong. Kim springs the news on Khloé that she was offered to be on the cover of Complex magazine, thanks to her connections, but Khloé is initially reluctant.
Khloé mentions that people — men and women — keep saying she was “so big” in old pictures. She says, “It’s like a known thing, how fat I was.”
And it is Kim’s response that has left me with mixed emotions.

Now, I understand Kim is trying to be supportive and it is awesome for her to encourage her sister to show off the body she has clearly worked hard for and is proud of, but I just can’t shake the bad taste I get in my mouth when Kim asks if she wants to “erase” any trace of her old self.
Maybe she just didn’t articulate well what she meant? I can’t quite put my finger on the reason this seems like a poor message wrapped in good intentions.

There is something to be said of wanting to write your own story and have the public look at you the way you want them to, and if that is 25 pounds lighter and you want to create a new narrative, that is your prerogative.
But there is still that lingering “but.”
We know Kim is obsessive about every single image she puts out in public, but to try to turn Khloé, who never before seemed to be as obsessed, into someone who wants to completely “replace the old” her doesn’t actually seem like very good advice.

Of course, there is the flip side: Kim is trying to get her sister to embrace and love her body by showing it off, which seems like great advice, too.
It’s a hard one to call. Is this body positive or is it shaming Khloé’s “old” body?
