As the candidate on Chicago Fire, Jimmy Borelli is still working his way up the ranks and hoping to earn a permanent spot at Firehouse 51. In between that, Jimmy also seems to be finding love — or at least a little bit of romance with his co-worker Chili. Based on last Tuesday’s episode, the two are taking things to the next level, but does that mean they’re getting serious?

While chatting with Steven R. McQueen (Jimmy Borelli) at an NBC press event for all three Chicago shows, McQueen said, “As a new cadet, [Jimmy is] finding [his] place in this firehouse and in romance.” So, after that steamy bathroom moment and that kiss between Jimmy and Chili, are things heating up even more?
It’s hard to say for certain, and McQueen didn’t elaborate any further, but there’s always a chance they could get serious. On the other hand, they might just choose to have fun, especially since Jimmy is focusing on his candidacy and ensuring he isn’t disappointing as the newest fireman. There’s no doubt the two are attracted to one another, but fans are just going to have to wait and see what comes of that.
I have a feeling Jimmy looks at relationships in a more serious manner. Based on that conversation they had about marriage (Chili doesn’t believe in marriage and Jimmy seems to), they might be at odds about a few relationship-related things. But it’s way too early for either of them to be even thinking about walking down the aisle.

Wherever Jimmy and Chili end up, McQueen appears quite happy with his place in the Fire cast. After being a part of The Vampire Diaries for five seasons, McQueen quickly made his transition from Jeremy Gilbert to Jimmy Borelli. Yes, he loves it. “It’s been so great,” he said about joining Fire. “You know, I left one family to find a new one. The Vampire Diaries was a great experience and I learned so much from it, and [the] same can be said here. This show, Chicago Fire, is one of the hardest-working casts and crew that I’ve seen. I’m happy to be a part of it.”
What surprised him most about walking onto the Chicago Fire set was just how welcoming and humble everyone is. “It’s always, you know, walking onto a new set you never know how it’s going to be,” he explained. “Walking onto this set and seeing no egos and seeing such a hardworking cast and crew, I’ve been awestruck and I’m just so grateful to be a part of it.”
As for which is harder, fighting vampires or fighting fires, McQueen said it all comes down to one thing. “I think it just comes down to imagination,” he said. “You know, when you’re part of a supernatural world involving vampires, you have to imagine it’s all there, it’s all real. When you’re in this world of firefighters, you actually, when we’re doing the stunts, there’s actually cars on fire, you’re doing these stunts. So, it’s nice in the sense that you’re living in the real world. You’re seeing real things happen right in front of your eyes, so you don’t have to rely on imagination.”
With that said, if you’re a Jimmy and Chili shipper, here’s hoping you don’t have to use your imagination when it comes to making these two a permanent couple.
Chicago Fire airs Tuesdays at 10/9c on NBC.
