Besides looking totally fly on the cover of the December/January issue of Harper’s Bazaar, Kate Hudson is dishing some major details about her life situation right now.
While she might have been all blushing and elusive about those Nick Jonas dating rumors, she was most definitely shifting her focus during this interview to being a single mother and how she’s doing just fine all by herself.
Hudson explained that she is single for the first time in five years and says, “It’s nice to get acquainted with myself alone. You know, the goal when you get into a relationship is not to be out of the relationship. It’s to try to stay in the relationship. But if it doesn’t work, you can’t force things.”

She says she continues to push herself in her career, because she “just [enjoys] being on movie sets,” (coming from a movie-star family, that’s no surprise) but she also explains how she makes her career and family life work. “I think a lot of people, especially when you’re a woman, you have kids, and work on movies, it’s hard because you’re away from them. There’s nothing lazy about it. You go to work, get on the first plan home even if it’s for eight hours, go back to work.”
In addition to shooting movies almost nonstop — she was in Rock the Kasbah, voiced a character for Kung Fu Panda 3 and co-stared in the film Mother’s Day — she runs her athletic clothing line and is coming out with a book shortly. Oh, yeah, and if she wasn’t finished making us all feel inadequate, she’s training for a triathlon.

She goes on to talk about giving up relationships, even if it is difficult. “It’s hard to let go of something, even when you know it’s not right,” she said. “I’ve chosen something in my life that I’m very comfortable with that goes against a lot of people’s more traditional feelings. If something’s not right, I don’t believe in maintaining something for the sake of what’s considered a traditional family, because I believe that there are different ways to raise children. It’s far more effective to raise children in happy homes.”
It was just December of 2014 when Hudson and Matt Bellamy ended their engagement. Bellamy is the father of Hudson’s youngest son, Bingham, (she also has a son, Ryder, with ex-husband Chris Robinson). Most recently, Hudson had been seen getting kind of cozy with Nick Jonas, sparking romance rumors. And even though Hudson had mentioned before they were just a fling, she is setting the record permanently straight, now.
So, there we have it, folks: single and killing it.
