Bindi Irwin posted a touching tribute to her dad in honor of Steve Irwin Day, and it will leave you choked up.
Bindi, a favorite to win this season of Dancing with the Stars, lost her father in a freak accident when she was just a little girl — Steve was stabbed in the heart by a stingray’s barb — and has vowed to continue his work in conservation as her own life’s work. Yesterday on Instagram, she reiterated how important that is to her.

“The greatest Dad on Earth,” she wrote. “November 15. Steve Irwin Day. Remembering everything Dad worked so hard to achieve and continuing his legacy. We miss you so much and are extremely proud to be carrying on in your footsteps. Yesterday we celebrated #SteveIrwinDay in Australia. Today, let’s celebrate together on the other side of the world, today on November 15. Thank you for joining us in making a difference. Wearing our khakis and remember everything Dad did to change the world.”

As the Steve Irwin Day website explains, “Khaki is more than a colour. It’s an attitude. It’s a stand to do something positive in our world and a passion to make a difference. And when you make a difference – you KHAKI IT!
“Khaki is a symbol of Steve Irwin, the original Crocodile Hunter and Wildlife Warrior. At Australia Zoo and Australia Zoo Wildlife Warriors — we continue the legacy of Conservation, Family and Fun that Stevo created — and every day — we KHAKI IT! When you see that khaki uniform, it is a sign that somebody is there to get in and get their hands dirty and save an animal or campaign for wildlife conservation. You don’t have to be Terri, Bindi or Robert Irwin or a member of the Zoo Crew to be a Wildlife Warrior. Anyone can make a difference. Anyone can KHAKI IT!”
Watch Bindi compete in the Dancing with the Stars semifinals as she dances a salsa to “You’re Never Fully Dressed Without a Smile” tonight at 8/7c on ABC.
