After Sean Lowe stole their hearts, Bachelor fans were forced to sit through two very disappointing seasons. Juan Pablo Galavis angered everybody and Chris Soules bored everybody. Now, Ben Higgins is ready to return a sense of charm to the show. You may have loved Higgins on The Bachelorette, but you’ll be an even bigger fan after checking out these seven intriguing tidbits.
1. He’s a Midwest boy
Higgins’ hometown is nothing like his Bachelor predecessor’s stomping grounds in Arlington, Iowa, but both dudes share the same Midwestern charm. Higgins grew up in Warsaw, a town of just under 14,000 that will be featured in the upcoming season of The Bachelor.

2. He’s a proud Hoosier
After graduating from Warsaw Community High School, Higgins attended Indiana University, where he studied business administration and management. When he wasn’t studying, Higgins spent his time volunteering and presiding over the school’s basketball club and its student association.
3. Shawn Booth is his best bud
There is no lingering resentment between Higgins and Booth over Higgins’ failure to win the girl on The Bachelorette. In fact, the two are very close. Higgins is super happy that Kaitlyn Bristowe ended up with Booth. Hopefully, if he finds his dream girl on The Bachelor, the happy couples will go on plenty of fun double dates.

4. He is passionate about giving back
Higgins was involved in multiple charitable endeavors as a college student. Now that he’s in the public eye, he places an even greater emphasis on giving back. Prior to beginning to film for The Bachelor, he traveled to Honduras, where he supported the charity Humanity and Hope United. His efforts, combined with the fundraising prowess of producer Elan Gale, resulted in $25,800 for two small Honduras villages in desperate need of clean water. Higgins has a way of convincing his fans to support worthy causes, so additional charity efforts can be expected in the future.
5. He’s big on sports
When he’s not playing basketball, Higgins is hanging out on the couch and rooting for his favorite teams. These include the Indiana Pacers, the Indianapolis Colts and the Chicago Cubs.
6. His celebrity crush is Blake Lively
A few months ago, Higgins told People that he’s attracted to girl-next-door types. He highlighted Lively as the ultimate example of a good girl, adding that he would want any gal he dated to get along with the other ladies on The Bachelor. He’s a no-drama type of guy on the hunt for a no-drama type of girl.
