Gwen Stefani‘s divorce from Gavin Rossdale and his alleged extramarital affairs have been making headlines for weeks, but Stefani’s recent interview sheds even more light on her failed marriage.

Divorce is never easy, but during an interview with The Tommy Show (that aired Wednesday on Washington D.C.’s 94.7 Fresh FM, People magazine reports), Stefani revealed just how hard her split from Rossdale really was.
She said, “I wish it didn’t happen — I wish that all this wasn’t happening. But at the same time, I feel like it was part of my life journey.”
Stefani’s marriage and her divorce from Rossdale may be part of her life’s journey, but when she listens to her old songs, she can clearly pick up some tell-tale signs of her unhappiness.
“Because of my situation right now, which we all know what I’m talking about, I feel like I go back and listen to a lot of that stuff, and I’m, like, I get sick,” she revealed. “You look at the songs and go, ‘That was a red flag. That was a moment where I was feeling just as bad as I feel today, and why did I keep it up?”

But she did keep it up (which many speculate was for the sake of her three sons). However, Stefani is now in a really good place, and has “got a lot of joy right now” — something that her new boyfriend, Blake Shelton, may be contributing to.
Stefani is also pretty upbeat about her breakup and the silver lining that has come with it.
“In my life, I’ve had two really bad heartbreaks, and I’ve written some really incredible music out of it,” Stefani said. “I feel so lucky to have that, and to be able to share it.”
