The Vampire Diaries: 6 Major moments coming in the holiday episode (PHOTOS)

The holiday season is here and even The Vampire Diaries is getting in the spirit of things. The show will air its special Christmas-themed episode, “Cold as Ice,” on Dec. 10, but you don’t have to wait that long to get a sneak peek. Check out six behind-the-scenes photos below.

“Cold as Ice” will also be the show’s Season 7 mid-season finale and while it may be holiday-themed, don’t expect the episode to be all that cheery. Per The CW’s synopsis, the episode takes place as the holidays are in full swing and the Salvatore brothers (Ian Somerhalder and Paul Wesley) are on the hunt for Julian (Todd Lasance). Their search leads them to a small town that sits near Mystic Falls, as seen below.

But while the two may be working together for now, Stefan soon finds himself at odds with Damon and he decides to take matters into his own hands. That decision sets off a chain of events that will change both of their lives.

They’re not the only ones facing drama. Caroline (Candice King) is doing her best to navigate life as a pregnant vampire. From the look on her face in the photo above though, it’s not all that easy getting into the Christmas spirit.

Meanwhile, Alaric (Matt Davis) is getting concerned that Caroline’s pregnancy is affecting her more than she lets on — which, as seen in this photo, looks like it will lead to some conflict between the two.

The two apparently decide to attend a medical session to learn more about pregnancy and what it entails, as captured above.

It looks like Nora will help Bonnie with the toy drive — although she doesn’t seem to thrilled about it, at least initially.

Between the the feud between brothers, a pregnant vampire, and a potential, unlikely friendship, this will clearly be one jam-packed episode. So mark your calendars: “Cold as Ice” will air on Thursday, Dec. 10, at 8 p.m. ET.
