Padma Lakshmi opened up about how she felt sitting next to Ann Coulter on The View while Coulter spewed her thoughts on immigration.
On Thursday, Dec. 3, Padma Lakshmi joined Andy Cohen on Watch What Happens Live along with fellow guest Adriana Lima. Cohen asked Lakshmi about that time in October when she joined the ladies on The View as a panelist.

Just like many days on The View, things got heated. Especially with Ann Coulter as the guest. She joined the ladies to discuss her views on immigration and her new book, Adios America!: The Left’s Plan to Turn Our Country into a Third-World Hellhole.
Coulter said, “We’re bringing in millions and millions of people from very poor cultures, from very backwards cultures. We don’t need to be importing other countries’ poor people.”

This statement would be bound to make anyone hot and bothered, either pro or con, but for Lakshmi, it made her want to sit on her hands because it was a very personal issue. She was born in India and emigrated to the U.S.
“Ann Coulter was there promoting her book on immigration and she was sitting next to me, and obviously I’m an immigrant, as you are [to Lima], and so is [The View’s] Ana Navarro, and so it’s… She got into it with everybody,” she shared.

While Lakshmi didn’t say anything while sitting next to Coulter, she told Cohen what was going through her mind.
“I was thinking, ‘Lord, please don’t let me slap a bitch on national TV.’ It was my first time on The View and Ann Coulter is a very bright woman, she’s whip smart, she has a right to her own opinion. And I’m on The View, I respect her right to express her point of view. But, you know, I don’t agree with a lot of her views and I don’t agree with them for some very vehement reasons. Especially on immigration. I just thought, ‘I have to be graceful because I have a limit. She may not have that limit.’ I didn’t even need to talk. You can see it on my face.”
I doubt it’s the first time someone sitting next to Ann Coulter wanted to bitch-slap her. It would’ve made for great TV. But I guess that’s why Lakshmi is on Top Chef and not The Real Housewives.
