Everyone loves watching Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani‘s romance play out on The Voice, and they’ve definitely become one of Hollywood’s favorite celeb couples — but Shelton’s recent comments about his relationship status are causing mass confusion.

Taking to Twitter, Shelton tweeted about “being single” and the perks of having Christmas gift baskets all to himself.
But fans (almost instantly) reacted to the message with complete shock as they wondered what had happened between Shelton and Stefani.

Shelton must have noticed the fallout, so he quickly took to Twitter to clarify his message, writing, “And before yall [sic] start, “single” means not married….”
Whether Shelton wrote the tweet to get a rise on purpose (he is quite the joker) or not, he certainly appears to have enjoyed the reaction to his comment.
Shelton retweeted comments about “The Onion and TMZ going crazy lol,” and a fan’s message about liking him and Stefani as a couple.
