One year later, Tim Gunn is still trash-talking Kanye’s Yeezy clothing line

Tim Gunn may be the supportive design coach on Project Runway, but when it comes to Kanye West and his fashion line, he gives a serious dose of truth.

In an interview with the NY Daily Newsback in 2015, Gunn said, “I’m on record having said [his fashions] are basic, what a dear friend of mine, Grace Mirabella [former editor-in-chief of Vogue], calls dumb clothes. It’s not fashion,” Gunn said. “They’re dumb clothes, and they’re expensive dumb clothes. I’ve always said the only thing dumber than his clothes is the people who buy them.”

Ouch.

I know you can’t see me right now, but I am the crying-laughing emoji times 100. When I first looked at Kanye’s designs, I couldn’t wait for the bad reviews. But he’s Kanye, and he yells a lot, so nobody bothered. Thank you, Tim Gunn.

But he wasn’t done. He turned his criticism to Kim Kardashian.

“I’m always saying to young people — and actually even to adults — I don’t care what you wear as long as you don’t dress like a Kardashian. It’s vulgar, period,” Gunn says. “But that’s what they are. I believe that their place in history will be because of this phenomenon that really is about nothing. And aren’t people getting bored of it?”

Amen. But he wasn’t done yet. He also tackled the Jenners.

“No! I don’t like any of [their style choices]. It’s all the same. Then to read a headline ‘Learn Caitlyn Jenner’s beauty secrets!’ She’s a kid!” he said, before the NY Daily News corrected him that Kylie is the youngest and Caitlyn is the former patriarch Bruce Jenner.

Gunn clarified, “I mean Kylie, sorry. I get all the Ks confused. And I want to say this about Caitlyn. I have the greatest respect for what she has done and been through, but no, I’m not a fan of the style.”

Well, Caitlyn probably gets a hall pass because it’s all new to her. Or not.

Gunn said that he was “horrified” by Caitlyn’s statement that choosing what to wear is the toughest decision a woman has to make every day.

“I thought, really? I think if you asked most other women that it’s not going to be on the tip of their tongue. She’s like a dizzy broad. Actually, I love that. She’s a dizzy broad,” concluded Gunn.

But now? Oh, Gunn isn’t even close to being done. When asked about West’s Yeezy Season 4 line, he called it a “hoax.”

I’m totally perplexed about why the fashion industry has not looked at these frankly dumb, basic clothes and cried ‘hoax,'” he said on Access Hollywood Live. “Kanye West is a sphinx without a riddle. I just don’t understand why people are so in awe. [The models in the show were] basically wearing stretch undergarments.”

And the part that stings the most? “I think the only thing dumber than these clothes would be the people who would buy these clothes.”

Burn!

Thank you, Tim “truth teller” Gunn. You’ve said what most are afraid to say, and for that I love you.
