A new photograph has been released by Prince William and Kate Middleton to mark their first Christmas as a family of four.

The intimate family snap shows the Duke and Duchess sitting in their garden at Kensington Palace with 2-year-old Prince George and 6-month-old Princess Charlotte.

It’s the first time the family have released a Christmas photograph and only the second official portrait of the Duke and Duchess with their two children.

The image was captured in late October by photographer Chris Jelf and was chosen by William and Kate to be the picture on the Christmas cards they sent to family and friends.

Predictably, it’s the younger members of the family who steal the show — Prince George in a cute knitted sweater, shorts and long socks and his little sister wearing the same outfit she wore in the photos taken by Kate, which were released last month.

Royals or not, kids are kids — George is a typical toddler with a look of mischief in his eyes and baby Charlotte has lost one of her shoes.

According to MailOnline, the family will be spending Christmas in their country home Anmer Hall on the Queen’s Sandringham Estate and are expected to be joined by the Kate’s family after they attend a church service with the royals.

The release of the photograph coincided with the announcement that Prince George is due to start nursery at a Montessori school in Norfolk at the end of January.
