Most of the people that made Barbara Walters‘ 10 Most Fascinating People of 2015 are just that: fascinating.
Above that adjective, they are deserving of being on that list, too. And side note: It is inspiring to see so many women and female athletes make the cut, too (but, as a female athlete, I might be a little bit biased).
But that doesn’t mean all of the individuals who made the list are being met with such open arms. There are several controversial choices among those who Walters has named. A politician from each side of the aisle, which ultimately has the opposing side calling foul for each choice. But it is, “society transforming,” Caitlyn Jenner that is, naturally, making the most waves.

Walters explains that Jenner was, “once called the world’s greatest athlete. Traditionally, that title was given to the man who won the Olympic decathlon. When Bruce Jenner won it in 1976, it was a huge accomplishment that had everybody talking. But it was nothing like this. When Bruce Jenner became Caitlyn Jenner, there was a seismic shift in the gender universe.”
Walters goes on to say she knows it will cause a stir in people’s emotions, but that is the point.
“She was a lightning rod for criticism. First, for her [Arthur Ashe] Courage Award that ESPN gave her. Then for the glamorous style of her transition. But Caitlyn’s celebrity brought new attention to the grim reality of life for many transgendered people.”
But despite her explanation for the choice, people are sounding off on the Internet with their extreme unhappiness (with both Jenner and Walters) over the decision to include Jenner in the Most Fascinating People of 2015.

@people@Caitlyn_Jenner Predictable choice, but not the right one! I hope Caitlyn just fades into the woodwork in 2016.

Caitlyn Jenner should be 1 of the things left in 2015 honestly.
