Teresa Giudice and her prison mates exchanged emotional goodbyes

The Real Housewives of New Jersey‘s Teresa Giudice left prison just in time for Christmas, but her time behind bars might not have been as lonely as we all thought.

According to People magazine, Giudice’s send-off from the federal women’s facility in Danbury, Connecticut, was actually a pretty emotional affair because she managed to forge some strong bonds with her fellow female inmates.

“She shed lots of tears in Danbury the night before she left,” her lawyer James J. Leonard Jr. told the publication. And the women in the correctional facility may miss Giudice because they gave her something to remember them by — cards and “tokens of friendship” — which she will reportedly “cherish” forever.

“I read some of the messages in the cards they gave her,” Leonard Jr. told the publication. “They were tearjerkers — it’s clear she developed a strong bond with a lot of these women.”

Giudice will remain under house arrest until Feb. 5, and her husband, Joe, will begin his sentence in March 2016, so the family is no doubt planning to spend a lot of time together, away from the prying public eye.

But judging from her lawyer’s comment to People, there are plenty of people who would love Giudice to return to the small screen ASAP, and she was the recipient of unbelievable amounts of fan mail while in prison.

Leonard Jr. said, “I couldn’t believe how much fan mail she got.”
