Lorde posted an Instagram photo that followers interpreted as the singer throwing shade at Kendall Jenner and Harry Styles.
Don’t worry, Lorde didn’t turn into a mean girl on New Year’s Eve. But that didn’t stop her Instagram followers from thinking otherwise.
It all started when Lorde posted a painting of a girl enjoying a private yacht to Instagram on Saturday, Jan. 2.

Lorde wrote, “When you scroll through your feed and all the pretty famous boys and girls are on yachts or in saint barth’s and you’re at home where it’s raining and you’ve never even been on a holiday to another country before. Never been to a tropical island let alone saint barth’s and actually you aren’t even sure if you’re spelling saint barth’s right.”
It just so happens that Kendall Jenner and Harry Styles had been photographed making out on a yacht in St. Barts. Naturally, followers assumed that Lorde was throwing shade at the couple.

Of course the controversy got back to Lorde and she quickly clarified her remarks in an edited post.
“LOL no ‘shade’ folks,” she added in her original post. “If I were on an island or in even nearish proximity to a yacht, you would be hearing all the f–k about it. Just making fun of my own lameness.”
Everyone can go back to loving Lorde and anticipating her new album. While everything about it is top secret, it seems like at least her mom is in the know.

“Whispered the album name to my mum in the car today,” she shared with her followers on New Year’s Eve. “Feeling quietly excited about 2016.”
Maybe when it goes platinum, her record company can send her to St. Barts and let her stay on a yacht.
