Tom Schwartz’s proposal on Vanderpump Rules was beyond nerve-racking

Vanderpump Rules fans knew it was coming, and it finally happened. Tom Schwartz proposed to Katie Maloney. It’s about time. Who knew he’d actually take the leap, get down on one knee and pop the big question to his longtime girlfriend? Also, it was a relief to see he didn’t pull another ring-on-a-string moment. Schwartz definitely learned his lesson.

For the past nine episodes, Schwartz has discussed his proposal plans with his best friend, Tom Sandoval. He even brought Sandoval and Scheana Marie ring shopping to ensure he selected something that would be a perfect fit for Katie.

Well, after what seemed like forever, Schwartz (surprisingly) pulled off quite the elaborate and clever proposal. That said, it was beyond nerve-racking. He kept saying he wasn’t nervous, but there’s no way around it — he was. Not only was he fidgeting, sweating and restless, Schwartz had a look of terror on his face. Granted, a proposal is a major life moment, so I’d be nervous, too.

While out to dinner for Sandoval’s birthday dinner, it seemed like Schwartz would just ask Katie, “Will you marry me?” But, oh no, he went the extra mile and actually put some effort into it. Side note: How nice of Sandoval to let Schwartz kind of steal his birthday thunder, right? (This was no Monica and Rachel from Friends situation.) However, they are all going to Hawaii for Sandoval and Jax Taylor’s birthdays, so it was the least he could do.

Anyway, after the entrées were cleared, a man at a table nearby appeared to be proposing to his girlfriend, too. This is where Schwartz’s cleverness came into play. It was all part of his plan. They were actors!

Then, out of nowhere, Schwartz took the ring out of the guy’s hand, walked over to Katie (who was shocked and had no idea what was happening) and finally did what she’d been waiting forever for. Schwartz’s proposal to Katie was a success!

Even though I’m not a fan of fancy proposals, nor would I want a bunch of people staring at me in the process, Schwartz did a pretty great job. I’m impressed. Now, all fans have to wait for is to see how long they’re engaged for until they actually tie the knot. As Jax said, will this be a four-year engagement? Let’s hope not.

Vanderpump Rules airs Mondays at 9/8c on Bravo.
