Star Wars merchandise under fire after Rey is excluded from Monopoly game

This is a topic that has been trending for weeks, and fans finally got an answer to their question “where’s Rey?” when Disney revealed you can expect to see more of her as new products roll out.

Yet fans have still got plenty to ask questions about, most recently why the character, played by Daisy Ridley, was omitted from the Star Wars Monopoly game in favour of four male characters: Finn, Kylo Ren, Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader.

Hasbro has responded to the questions about the missing character, revealing that it excluded Rey to avoid spoilers.

“The Star Wars: Monopoly game was released in September, months before the movie’s release, and Rey was not included to avoid revealing a key plot line that she takes on Kylo Ren and joins the Rebel Alliance”, a spokesperson for Hasbro explained to The Guardian. “Fans will see more Rey products hitting store shelves this month, including 6-inch and 12-inch Rey action figures. We are thrilled with the popularity of this compelling character and will continue to look for ways to showcase Rey across all of our product lines”.

Hasbro may have explained the reasoning behind its decision — although most fans already suspected (based on the buildup and trailer) that Rey would play an important role — but the good news is that pressure from fans appears to have paid off, because Hasbro’s recent tweet is quite remarkable.
