The Real Housewives of Orange County‘s Tamra Judge already has something to be grateful for this year.
According to People, Judge’s granddaughter Ava’s kidney condition is under control. “She’s happy, she’s healthy, and she’s funny,” said Judge. “She’s just so cute!”

As People reports, Ava was diagnosed with a multicystic dysplastic kidney shortly after her birth in February 2015.
According to Judge’s son’s fiancée Sarah Rodriguez, Ava was functioning with one kidney at birth. “When she was born, there was no sign of a left kidney. Because it was a non-functioning kidney it kind of just shriveled up, so it hasn’t disappeared but the tissue is too small to be detected by an ultrasound.”

Ava will continue to be monitored every six months at a local children’s hospital to ensure proper kidney function, but all signs point to her body making a natural recovery. “Her right kidney is growing to compensate for both kidneys so it’s a little larger than the other one, but it’s compensating, which is really good,” says Rodriguez, “They need to make sure whatever took the left kidney [is] not going to do the same thing. But so far it’s amazing. The right kidney is doing what it’s supposed to do.” Ava won’t even remember this early health scare, fingers crossed.
Ava is the first and only child of Rodriguez and Judge’s son Ryan Vieth, and the first grandchild for Judge.
