And his latest update may be the hardest yet to read.

In it, Rory tells the story of his and Joey’s song “When I’m Gone.” Originally, they had planned to sing the song together in its video. They soon realized, though, that to capture the story of the song, Joey needed to sing it to Rory as if he had lost her.

“And so the cameras rolled and both Joey and I let us ourselves imagine what it would be like if she had to leave this world and I was left behind without her,” Rory writes. “And now, here I sit beside my dying wife.”

This is the first time that Rory has said that his wife is dying, he admits. But in the latest post to his blog, where he’s been documenting every step of Joey’s courageous battle with cervical cancer, he faces the truth and gives fans and followers the gut-wrenching latest news about Joey’s condition.

“Her pain and discomfort has continued to increase daily and so has the morphine to help her be comfortable. The dosage she’s needed to keep the pain away has quadrupled in the last four days,” he writes. “I’d like to tell you that she’s doing great and is going to beat this thing. But I can’t.”

He continues, “Yesterday with tears in her eyes and mine, Joey held my hand and told me that she has been having serious talks with Jesus. She said she told him that if He’s ready to take her… she’s ready to come home.”
